Mortgage Marketing Tips: #2

How to Ensure You are Ready and Able to Execute the Ideas, Marketing Campaigns and New Ways of Thinking That Are About to Explode Your Business

Ironically, the biggest problem most mortgage professionals face when implementing new ideas is NOT in executing the steps (that's the easy part), but rather in mustering enough courage and faith to believe that this is possible.

I know that you have the desire to make a change. You wouldn't be reading this newsletter if you didn't. But desire and belief are two different things, and in order for you to make a quantum leap in your business, you must first make a quantum leap in your thinking. This  quantum leap in thinking is called a paradigm shift.

A paradigm is a model or a pattern. It is a way of seeing and understanding things. It is your understanding of the world, and of the way things are done. Imagine if you took a glass and filled it with all of your thoughts and past experiences: the way you were raised, your mind set,
everything you believe in, etc. That is your paradigm.

Most originators (most people) never question their paradigm. Instead, they let it build artificial walls around them which dwarf their possibilities and opportunities. If you are ambitious (as you and I know you are), and you let your paradigm imprison you in this manner, you inevitably hit the glass ceiling, or hit the wall, or hit a level of frustration that I can tell you from first hand experience is paralyzing.

When this occurs, one of three things happen. You either:

1. Give it all up and try something else (i.e. you succumb to your old paradigm),
OR
2. keep banging your head against the wall hoping and praying (and rationalizing) that if you just work hard enough things are bound to get better (i.e. you accept and are limited by your paradigm),
OR
3. find a better way to do things that will achieve superior results (i.e. you change your paradigm)

I chose the latter route - i.e. I changed my paradigm. I refused to accept that life had to be so hard.

I assure you, there's nothing special about me or others who have successfully used these principles. In fact, there are many who have had serious challenges way beyond the norm (health, financial, emotional, etc) many of which have been the most successful with them. So don't cop out.

Don't give yourself the excuse that others have some kind of advantage that you don't.

That's simply untrue.

As many of you know I started in this industry as a real estate agent. Before that I had what most people call a “real job”. This real job gave me lots of free time, but very few dollars with which to enjoy the free time. My gruelingly long hours and hard work when I first got into
real estate completely reversed this equation. I then had money to spend, but no free time to enjoy it in.

I was stuck in the same situation that most find themselves in - the same rut. My old paradigm said that I had to trade my time for money. In other words, if I wanted more money, I had to trade more of my time to get it.

And that's exactly what I did - that was my strategy. I traded my time - my life - for money, and quickly realized that the problem with this strategy was that eventually you hit a solid steel ceiling.

There comes a point when you have no more time to give.

Now let me cut to the chase here. I'll spare you the long and involved details of just how many business and marketing courses I took, or how many books I read, or how many thousands of dollars and hours I spent on seminars, tracking, testing, making mistakes and creating successes. I've endlessly studied the teachings of as many major marketing genius as I can get my hands on.

Instead of studying rigid, outdated textbooks, I've studied real people who are currently living and breathing this stuff in other industries. And then I've taken it all back and tested and proven its validity within the real world of my own business.

In a word, I've been obsessed. When I hit that ceiling or wall or whatever you want to call it, I absolutely refused to admit defeat. I refused to believe that there was no way to get to the
other side.

Well, here I am - on the other side. And everyday it gets easier and easier because the leverage and synergies within my business are vast.

You can do the same in your business. I know you can (probably even better). But remember it will take some vision on your part and sometimes it will take a willingness to step beyond your current field of vision into the dark before the view opens up ahead of you.

When a farmer plants the seed in the early spring he does so with full expectation that his effort and work will yield a full harvest in the fall. This is no different for you or me.  We may use different seed and a different type of field, but we have to exercise the same courage and faith that the farmer does to actually go out and start planting.

“The difference between success and failure is almost always a matter of inches – the distance between your ears.”

Or, as Napoleon Hill said it. "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve."

Based on my experience, conceiving great things is not difficult. It's believing that they can really happen that is the real challenge in life. If you will start today developing this part of your brain and keep developing it every day of your life there is nothing that will stand in your way of getting whatever you truly desire.
